CALL FOR PAPERS

(Undergraduate/Graduate Students, Faculty, Staff and Community organizations)

Implementing successful and sustainable practices in the Southeast requires marshalling the energies, resources and know-how of institutions that have historically served people of color. Historically Black Colleges, Universities and 1890 Land Grant institutions are central to this mission. Please join us in this mission by submitting an abstract for an oral/poster presentation for the session:

"Organizing for Sustainability at HBCU’s and 1890 Land Institutions"

  • Maximum abstract length of 300 words should be submitted by 21st January, 2011 to amarshall@sogreennetwork.org.Please identify poster/oral preference, title, affiliation and presenter contact information.
  • 20 minute oral presentations will take place on Saturday 19th February, 2011. Poster presentations will be displayed throughout the summit.
  • We encourage the submission of papers for publication in the summit’s proceedings, however submission is optional. Maximum length: 5-single spaced pages by 7th February, 2011
  • All presentations should give insight into actions taken at HBCU’s, 1890 Land Grant Institutions or other institutions in the region. Presentations can serve as examples of the successes and/or challenges related to sustainability and environmental issues.

    These issues include but should not be limited to:
    • Sustainable Agriculture
    • Food Sovereignty
    • Alternative Energy
    • Climate Change

    These actions should exemplify:
    • Community Engagement
    • Research and Extension
    • Curriculum integration
    • University operations
    • University Restructuring
    • Student organization experiences
    • Co-curricular experiences and training
